How to Tune Your String Instrument (Violin, Viola, Cello)
In this video, our string technician, Russ Lagman walks us through how to make tuning adjustments to both the pegs and fine tuners on our string instrument. Tuning can be a difficult task for beginners and non-string players so it is best to make smaller adjustments when working with the tuning pegs or ask for help from a teacher, instructor or local music store. We hope this video helps with any tuning troubles you may be having.

    I have a question regarding the tuning of the strings, if i don't have this device that helps me regulate the strings to their best tightening level then how can i do it by myself without this device? And another question, should i loosen the strings on the violin every time i finish playing on it or should keep it tighten the whole time? And thank you for your content i really love it.

    Never use a swab that has a metal wire core. An exposed wire end can unknowingly do damage to the bore. Use a cloth swab instead...silk is good because it has less lint to collect in openings.

    Can I use valve oil on my slide? I need help I'm a starter on trumpet.

    • @DavidFrenchMusic
      @DavidFrenchMusic 5 років тому

      Hi Hypix Guitar! We recommend using valve oil for the valves and buying specific slide oil for your slides. Slides 1 and 3 generally need a lighter slide oil. Hetman and Bach are great options. For your main tuning slide and slide #2, use a heavy slide oil to keep them from moving on you when you play, but also allowing you to adjust them for tuning. Check out our other three tutorials on our channel on how to oil those slides.

      HI David, it was a feeble attempt at humour, sorry. I am doing a woodwind repair foundation course next month and have already refurbed two saxes including a C soprano, which i played at a jam session in Glastonbury England last week. so after that i will unleash myself on the unsuspecting public who might need their axes fixed. I also run a small fine art bronze casting foundry, using lost wax/ceramic shell so i might have a go at casting broken/missing parts. Plus i want to do research into annealing brass on vintage instruments so as to try to accuretley determine when & if they will crack or break, cause they may have been bent lots before, as I'm sure you know . thanks for your reply, kind regards Jack

      Very cool! Sounds like you might find yourself a niche market if you can cast missing parts on antique horns. Wish you luck.

    I agree! Love the music and so apropos! I made my own fixture to mount the sections using a clarinet wall mount and the one you have chucked. I slotted the wall bracket to slide adjust for both sections and used an angle bracket drilled for that table holder cone with a drill stop ring to hold it in the angle, both mounted on a strip of 3/4 X 3" wood. Crude but effective and used on my desk when doing all of the pad adjustments and needle spring work. I use a soldering iron for the pad leveling etc. etc. Thanks
